la la land for people whose ryan gosling is charlie day
parisMay 11, 2023Charlie Day is an extremely talented person so it sucks to see his talent wasted on something so deeply, remarkably uninspired. completely baffling misfire given how good he is in anything else
coffeeMay 22, 2023Not offensively bad like one would guess based on Twitter reactions, just devoid of any ounce of creativity or spirit. There’s a world where this works. That world is in Charlie Day’s head.

Closed my eyes and plugged my ears the entire time to truly experience the genius of this movie
allegedlystephMay 11, 2023At least Charlie remembered to put a tape in while making this.

I’m not sure what to think of this one upon my first watch. It’s got great cinematography and funny performances but the story is kind of a mess and it’s all over the place. I like Charlie Day but this might be a misfire for his directorial debut. I’ll give this a rewatch and see
Close to a throwback wacky silent movie that is as refreshing as it is silly and delightful.

Starts of as “Being There” but about movies but quickly loses focus. The satire’s too broad, going after celebrity culture, filmmaking, Hollywood conspiracies, cycles of fame, and much more instead of focusing on one target. Poorly paced, tries to rush through the first two acts.
Cute but wanted more… tho a star-studded cast the writing wasn’t that great and humor was subtle but not ijbol funny. Also I think it needed a good ol’ soundtrack but it was lacking in many more ways however I loved almost everybody in the film and it was good but not wow 🤩🌈💣✨
I mean… I’ve literally just finished watching it for the first time, and I do genuinely wish it was as good as I thought it was going to be. I guess I thought I would love it, and I did for some parts, but unfortunately I can’t lie to myself. About half of it was boring.

As a comedy, this is a very enjoyable watch. Some funny moments were very detailed. I loved identifying all the actors previously seen on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. What caught me off guard was the INCREDIBLE cinematography sprinkled throughout this movie.
3.0 - Such a let down. There are way too many funny people in this for it to be so unfunny. It’s unfair to expect everything Charlie Day does to be “Always Sunny” but this, as his directorial debut, was a misfire. I hope when he tries again he can find his voice.
This movie was pretty funny, but considering how much I love Charlie day, it was a bit of a let down. There were some really funny parts, and the cast was amazing, but it just sorta felt too long and like it was dragging on. Adrian Brody was really funny. 5.5/10
