Synopsis
A satirical comedy about a down-on-his-luck publicist who discovers a recently released mental health patient who looks just like a misbehaving movie star. The publicist subs him into a film, creating a new star. But fame and fortune are not all they are cracked up to be.

I’m not sure what to think of this one upon my first watch. It’s got great cinematography and funny performances but the story is kind of a mess and it’s all over the place. I like Charlie Day but this might be a misfire for his directorial debut. I’ll give this a rewatch and see

Starts of as “Being There” but about movies but quickly loses focus. The satire’s too broad, going after celebrity culture, filmmaking, Hollywood conspiracies, cycles of fame, and much more instead of focusing on one target. Poorly paced, tries to rush through the first two acts.
Sugama likedFool's ParadiseCute but wanted more… tho a star-studded cast the writing wasn’t that great and humor was subtle but not ijbol funny. Also I think it needed a good ol’ soundtrack but it was lacking in many more ways however I loved almost everybody in the film and it was good but not wow 🤩🌈💣✨

As a comedy, this is a very enjoyable watch. Some funny moments were very detailed. I loved identifying all the actors previously seen on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. What caught me off guard was the INCREDIBLE cinematography sprinkled throughout this movie.
Clay Werner dislikedFool's Paradise3.0 - Such a let down. There are way too many funny people in this for it to be so unfunny. It’s unfair to expect everything Charlie Day does to be “Always Sunny” but this, as his directorial debut, was a misfire. I hope when he tries again he can find his voice.

It’s a relief when the talking/screeching version of Day has an accident and the silent version takes over. He manages the pratfalls and double-takes well enough. He’s no Keaton, Chaplin, Begnini, Sellers or David Hyde Pierce, to name some of the great physical comics of ancient and recent vintage. There’s no shame in that.

If Day has shown anything with Fool’s Paradise and the long road to get it made, it’s that he has passion and a vision, and a dedication to making a project that works for him. Fool’s Paradise might not work as well as it should, but fingers crossed that Day keeps at it.
