Oh, this is such cinematic comfort food. It's like being wrapped in a warm, Technicolor blanket, as you're lulled into a restful sleep, transported into a dreamscape awash with a luscious, gothic atmosphere. It easily sits alongside the 1931 Dracula and the 1992 Dracula, as…

Honestly more cute than it is scary. If this movie had a face I would pinch its cheeks.

Hammer replaces the expressionist shadows of old with pure gothic, technicolor lavishness. Anticipating that some viewers might find this new style stiffer and duller and too British in between the very good opening and closing shock-attack scenes, Fisher was like "let's…

RESEÑA EN ESPAÑOL SPOOKTOBER VI: THE HAMMER OF HORROR This is one of those films I could have sworn I rated lower the first time I watched it, but I connected with it more on this viewing. The first time through I was disappointed we didn’t get more of Christopher Lee as…

Hooptober 22/31 Hammer Horror is a subgenre and studio I'm just, incredibly underwatched on. So much of the famed studio's DNA courses through modern horror cinema, and Horror of Dracula has me increasingly interested and excited about continuing to uncover such a…

For the film named after his character, funny that he only had 68 seconds of screen time. But yet made every second count (no pun intended). Cushing’s performance was the highlight in my opinion… Second favourite Christopher Lee “Count” character ;)

    Dracula

I really enjoyed the moments when they’d drive the stakes through the heart with the hit of a hammer. One of the best takes on Hellsing by Peter Cushing. Not to mention the soundtrack and that classic Hammer film vibe in overall.

    Dracula

Totally classic! Starts in the middle of the action and keeps going. Christopher Lee is incredibly spooky yet seductive and Peter Cushing is totally believable as Van Helsing. Amazing sets and acting and tightly edited.

Peter Cushing carries most of the ho-hum script as Dr. Van Helsing, though the well-lit color photography, central to the Hammer formula, can't compare with the shadowy magnificence of Nosferatu (1922) or Dracula (1931).

It's often entertainingly creepy in a twilit world of its own.
