The only drama were the gay scenes. Something that would have been very rare in that day, but the directors felt needed a lot of screen time. Can’t we get a good movie without agendas or politics from either side?
Being a fan of the series I absolutely adored the movie. It was marvelous seeing the Crawleys back and on the big screen.
Metacritic
As pleasant as the Downton Abbey movie is, it’s hard not to wish for something more substantive, more memorable.

Through all the skillfully juggled subplots, the overarching conflict has always been the family’s quest to keep hold of Downton Abbey — and thus preserve their role as the heart of the community, envied and adored by all — while also keeping up with the march of modernity.

It’s not a movie, really. It’s a commemorative “Downton Abbey” throw pillow.
