Easily the silliest movie that has almost brought me to tears. A fun, easygoing movie about what even the most ridiculous films can mean to people. The Disaster Artist found dead in a ditch.
demi adejuyigbeNov 2, 2019One of the most enjoyable films of the year. Dolemite is my Name fills it’s runtime with as much energy as it can, even moments that need a minute to catch their breath feel like they have something exciting to offer. I don’t think I’m the one that needs to tell you this…
KarstenOct 18, 2019I missed Eddie Murphy so much

Murphy and Snipes are great. Lots of LOL moments and the premiere scene was moving for me. I'm a big fan of the original films so this was especially fun for me as a genre film geek. But being close to the originals also made it harder for me to accept the many artistic…
Sean BakerOct 27, 201979 "I'm so grateful for what you did for me, cause I'd never seen nobody that looks like me up there on that big screen." A film about visibility and creativity, about being up on the silver screen for the sake of being known and understood. One of the funniest movies in a…
SilentDawnOct 26, 2019The writers of the wonderful Ed Wood make a welcome return to their winning formula of a director using his infinite ambition and limited talent to convince everyone around him to help make his dream of making a movie a reality. Dolemite Is My Name isn’t as poignant as Ed…

After its promising first act, Craig Brewer’s film becomes a series of fleeting bits, allowing questions to pile up.

Odd, then, that [Brewer and Murphy's] Dolemite Is My Name is such a conventional-feeling biopic, one with its share of laughs and surprising anecdotes but little of the enduring strangeness that kept the 1975 Dolemite rattling around in our cultural memory

Unfolding like a slaphappy cross between “Baadasssss!” and “Bowfinger,” “Dolemite Is My Name” may not be quite as spirited or hilarious as any of its most obvious reference points, but its big-hearted buoyancy keeps it afloat, and the movie doesn’t slow down long enough for you to really care that it’s following a timeless formula.
