Synopsis

Directed by David Leitch (Atomic Blonde), Deadpool 2 brings the Merc with a Mouth back for another round of morally questionable “heroics” – and this time he’s got some new friends joining him. In order to protect a boy (Julian Dennison) from a time travelling cybernetic mutant soldier named Cable (Josh Brolin, a.k.a. “Not Thanos This Time Around”), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) needs his own super team. So he puts together a Force of X-persons (an... X-Force?) including Domino (Zazie Beetz), Bedlam (Terry Crews), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan), and… Peter (Rob Delaney). OK, so Peter is less of an X-person and more of an average person-person. Fun fact: in the comics, Cable and Deadpool are totes frenemies! Will they put aside their differences to form an uneasy alliance based on insults, frustration, and bodysliding-by-two? Maybe in time for the next movie…

Deadpool 2 is very good at what it does, which is flattering the audience into feeling like it’s in on the joke. If you’re a doubter, though, you may wonder if the joke’s on us.

It still works. Maybe not as well, since the element of shock and awe can’t be put back into its bottle, but anyone who enjoyed Wilson’s transformation into a bullet-hole-riddled leotard that can’t shut up should have as much fun.
