Atom User Reviews for Cyrano
don't really enjoy musicals, but still wanted to see it. it isn't over the top. it is witty soulful and entertaining. I cried for many reasons. the war, the battle, perhaps the fact that my sister was murdered recently by a gunshot to chest.
Simply amazing. The emotion was there, the acting and cast were great, the music was so so good, the story was perfect. If you’re iffy about watching it because it’s a musical, just watch it; trust me. I’d 10/10 watch it again. Definitely one of those movies you’d want to add to your collection.
I don't like musicals, but I loved this musical!
Peter Dinklage is a perfect Cyrano!
For a musical, you'd think they'd get actors that can actually sing. The only one that could was the woman who played Roxanne. All the others were awful.
Beautiful film. Loved every minute of it
Good
Not true to Rostand, but def a stand alone entertaining piece.
not a great movie. I felt like the music actually took away from the movie rather than add to it. everytime people starter singing , it would rip you put of the movie.
Peter Dinklage is a wonderful actor.
Very believable though heartbreaking. Gorgeous cinematography.
Beautifully filmed and acted lovestory. Costumes are exquisite. The art direction brings the story to life. Loved the songs and music.
I saw the commercials and expected for my heart to be stolen, to laugh and to cry. I did laugh but though the movie was absolutely beautiful, dancing, music score, colors and scenery it failed to capture by heart and when tragedy strikes I'm just not drawn in as much as I could have been. I looked at my watch and saw 20 minutes were left for a 2 hour movie that had so much potential but did not quite make it due to the pacing and how they chose to not really introduce the characters in a way that made the viewer really connect. Peter Dinklage played an wonderful Cyrano and stole the show or it was his to begin with. Voices dont have to be perfect and trained to make a musical less euphonious.
A wonderful call to a night of enchantment!!
It’s sad.
Acting was good but singing was not
So good, I was both happy and sad when leaving the theatre. Would absolutely recommend if you love a heartfelt story.
Can’t believe that’s how you make bread. Never been to a bakery tho
Beautifully done.
It was a musical that had sucky singers and it didn’t make you feel emotionally attached to the characters at all
Beautifully filmed - lovely scenery
I really enjoyed this movie, even knowing how it was going to end!! The visuals are stunning and Peter Dinklage kills it as Cyrano!!
Ripped my soul apart
a romantic story! while the singing was not my favorite the rest of the movie was amazing. great characters!
I love this story but know your own limits...don't take the lead in a musical if you can't really sing.
iam a hopeless romantic & this hits all the hight notes, no pun intended. knew a bit about CYRANO but not the whole story. this is simply a wonderful film.
Great entertainment.
This movie was a great Musical. Everyone does amazing. The set design, costumes & makeup was great
Metacritic
Thanks to the cast (which also includes Ben Mendelsohn, near-unrecognizable as the villainous De Guiche), Cyrano is worth seeing, either now or later. But it's a relatively modest addition to the title's storied history, one where the music subtracts at least as much as it adds to the story's inherent poetry.
Joe Wright’s well-intentioned adaptation of Erica Schmidt’s stage musical (itself drawn from Edmond Rostand’s 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac) can’t survive its own petulant, self-centered love object, Roxanne (Haley Bennett).
Cyrano slips in and out of that realm fitfully; it’s not always the most graceful retelling of this oft-told tale, and its ardent defense of love for love’s sake can feel paper-thin one moment and swooningly sincere the next. What gives the movie its sustaining pulse is Dinklage.
