At the time, Robert Downey Jr. was already known for his roles in a number of films, many of them aimed at teenagers. He was also once deemed the worst member of SNL by Rolling Stone. It wasn't until his appereance in this movie that people started to took him much…
Rafael "Mister Movie" JovineMar 22, 2018I first watched this in a film studies class and have wanted to rewatch ever since. I am so glad I did. Downey Jr. made the perfect Chaplin and this reminded me why I fell in love with film and the man himself. I am slowly working my way through Chaplin's extensive…
CharlotteDixonSep 18, 2023The biography of the great Charlie Chaplin, aims at exploring the life between the known dots and does a decent job at it. But what really fascinates and hooks you through the 140 minutes is the phenomenal performance of Robert Downey Jr. The man simply aces it.

Questionable accent aside, you won’t find a better performance in a more meh movie than Downey in Chaplin. He’s amazing! The movie is mostly pretty dull! I love the idea of Chaplin’s framing device; Anthony Hopkins plays the editor of Chaplin’s autobiography,…
Matt SingerMar 5, 2023someone says “good luck, charlie” at one point omg no way i loved that show
olivia ✨Mar 24, 2025This is a great look into the life of Charlie Chaplin, a revolutionary part of cinema history. The cast here is great, with Robert Downey Jr owning this role and playing exceptionally well. Although the old age make up is a bit wonky. We have a great supporting cast with,…

"It's a good country underneath, Doug." "No, it's a good country on top. Underneath, that's what starts showing when we're scared." In 1963, while working on his autobiography, Charlie Chaplin (Robert Downey Jr.) reminisces about his life. After his mother Hannah…
DanielJul 19, 2022Lots of boobs in this PG film. Stop making biopics that cover someone's entire life. They suck. Thanks.
Justin DeclouxMar 18, 2025I want to give a proper review of the film, but my god, I’m still drowning in Robert Downey Jr.’s eyes. They’re so mesmerizing, and he can express so much just through them. He’s such an incredible actor, and I love him so much ugh

Arguably RDJ’s best performance ever. Such a beloved actor playing another beloved actor, it is simply breathtaking. You’ll love both men even more at the end than when it starts. A great cinema history period piece that hits all the right notes.
This movie was a very typical biography movie. Robert Downey Jr did a good job of capturing the tramp character as well as Charlie Chaplin himself. I will say the movie became really preachy around the point of “The Dictator” film being created.

One of, if not, the best RDJ performance. A great insight into the life into one of the most influential cinema figures. Although the film was very lengthy, and dragged at times, it was definitely needed. 7.5/10
A lengthy bio pic, with the heart and would of Chaplin in its core. A phenomenal performance by all especially RDJ
