This documentary shows, in addition to how essential casting directors are, how appalling the industry in general and especially the Academy's treatment of casting directors has been. We need a Best Casting category immediately!

Marion's brownstone is three blocks away from my apartment, so when I walk past, it makes me want to watch this again. I finally did. Gosh, what memories of some of the people mentioned in it, the ones I knew and or worked with, and the friends who worked with so many of…

Visually rather clunky with the silky colorizing of photos and animated after effects stuff, but plenty of fun/cute anecdotes and a nice bit of advocacy for casting directors. Man Taylor Hackford really allowed himself to look awful in this. I can't believe that they didn't…

It's 85% talking heads, but they spew some fine anecdotes. Taylor Hackford drops the villain card. Totally fine.

A look into one of the most invisible, and crucial, of cinematic disciplines. Using the seminal casting director Marion Dougherty as a subject, the film walks us through the intricacies of casting, with insight from Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, Robert Redford and others.

A vivid reminder of the hand-in-glove importance of right actor/right role — and the indispensability of those casting mavens who helped make movie history. Good stuff.

This film reveals not just how integral casting directors are to the creative process of filmmaking, but really how important they have been in shaping the history of American cinema.
