Every time I watch this I desperately want to stop it from happening. I want to reach into the screen and warn someone, do something. I want the only moments to be Carrie dancing with Tommy and being prom queen, for once having a normal life and experiencing laughter and…

Based on Stephen King’s first published novel, from 1974, and in fact the first cinematic adaptation of that well-read author, Carrie dramatises all manner of first times, as Carrie gets her period, falls in love, and is ultimately penetrated, killing – and maybe dy(e)ing – in deep, deep red.

Carrie is just a bad movie, with only Spacek's performance making significant portions of it watchable. And the film has not improved with age. It looks just as cheap, cheesy, and ineptly made today as it did when it was first released.
