Tony Todd's voice is the 8th Wonder of the World
Patrick WillemsJun 30, 2020Uses gentrification and academia in Chicago as an access point to the trauma of slavery being painted over in reconstruction, before jumping off into a moody urban folklore dream where historical pain is mythologized and martyred in the form of Tony Todd's Candyman whose…

imagine trying to make a horror icon but he’s fine so no one’s scared of him
Riley Lucas lovedCandymanAmazing, the story was so original yet not because we all have played those horror mirror games before. I think that’s what made it so scary. It’s something we as kids all thought could actually happen. The visuals are great even 20 years later.

TribianiRamoray lovedCandymanRating: 7/10 Candyman is a smart, seductive, and deeply unsettling gothic horror classic that explores themes of race, social class, and folklore. Director Bernard Rose delivers a terrifying and beautifully crafted urban legend, powered by a legendary performance from Tony Todd. Highlights -…
Hellen likedCandymanI have to watch the rest of these. Candyman is too cool…I’m like compelled. The man is genuinely only in like 40% of the film but DAMN, he leaves an impression. And the moments where he would speak about himself? Aura. Genuinely. Also, tell me why I’m a whole 18-year-old and I KNOW this isn’t based…

I really like this, it’s one of my fav horror movies. it has everything good about a horror movie in it. the strong curious female lead, the dark twisted myth no one wants to believe in, and a KILLER soundtrack! It would almost be a perfect horror movie if the very ending was different. If it would…
brielle lovedCandymani loved this. i think it was really cool how at first, candyman was just thought of as an urban legend that many believed in. felt bad for helen, she really was being put through the ringer at every turn. i liked how the bees were a constant motif for candyman due to how he died.
CvptvinHowdy lovedCandymanThe theme for this is infectious, easily one of the best of all time. Tony Todd's performance in just this one film made the "Candyman" character iconic as any other horror villain. I remember the parking structure scene in the "Boogeyman VHS" compilation, in which I still have.

Like so many post-Val Lewton horror films, this 1992 feature starts out promisingly while the plot is mainly a matter of suggestion, but gradually turns gross and obvious as the meanings become literal and unambiguous.
