Super happy this finally hit blu after all these years—Love the blaxploitation Elm Street Hellraiser vibes, Suspiria maggot scene, 1979 ghetto gangster Snoop, Pam Grier (!!!), and the severed head finale. Recently found the soundtrack (along with the Bride of Chucky and…

Ernest R. Dickerson stayed most of the 90’s and 00’s trying to reimagine Blaxploitation in an era of more political charged black cinema and this one, his only decent budget film I had never seen, is a pretty impressive collection of angry horror imagery. At worse it plays…
Filipe FurtadoSep 20, 2026Hooptober XIII: 6/31 Finally getting to Ernest Dickerson's Bones as a byproduct of both my pick for The Video Dead podcast, and one of my Hooptober films. As a human raised through my pre-teen years in the late 1990's and early 2000's, so much of what I deemed "cool" at…
RensDad666Oct 24, 2020Bones is criminally underrated, and is probably one of the scariest and most likeable black horror movies I've seen. Bones doesn't have a showy story -- a murdered drug dealer coming back to life for revenge is not something that draws a crowd. However, the genius…

Honestly a criminally underrated scary movie that RULES. Rugged feel with blacksploitation undertone which is unique + well done. Probably has some of the best visuals I’ve seen in a horror movie & I have seen HUNDREDS. Snoop is awesome here and the plot is pretty solid actually!
Luis Carbajal likedBonesThis isn’t the scariest horror movie but it has a solid story and some really great acting. It gives an interesting take on a typical supernatural story that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Definitely underrated! 7.5/10 See full review: https://boxd.it/4jxshX
Tiger Z likedBonesInteresting, unique movie. I wanted more screenplay and action from Jimmy Bones but it was cool. Snoop’s acting was good. They should’ve made a sequel to it honestly. Reminds me of Vampire in Brooklyn.

all he wanted to do is do right and they said no now look at the neighborhood. crack really was messing with everyone and everything
Lee likedBonesSeverely underrated horror film, and one of the rare few that feature a predominantly Black cast.
Quarto Costa lovedBonesThe special effects are more funny than scary, but it's enjoyable to watch.

The rapper-ever-increasingly-turned actor -- is having the time of his life, big pimp styling in a flashy wardrobe as he guts and struts.

Regrettably, Bones is what passes for horror these days: Throw a lot of graphic, gore-filled, darkly lit stuff on the screen, and see what sticks. Discerning moviegoers should pass on the opportunity.

A sly mix of haunted house melodrama, slasher pic mayhem and retro-blaxploitation iconography, spiced with dollops of grisly, dark comedy.
