It’s okay. Love the musical but the film is a bit slow at times. Tim Burtons style is amazing and it is a good watch around Halloween time it’s just not my favorite film. Betelgeuse says weird uncomfortable things. "We’re very unhappy" "What did you expect you’re dead" 👁️👄👁️

Not since Ghostbusters have the spirits been so uplifting. [30 Mar 1988]

Elaborate special effects ruin the whimsy of this haunted house movie. The filmmakers parcel out the horrific gags so tirelessly they lose sight of the tale they're telling. This is one ghost story that needed an exorcism. [30 March 1988, p.C8]

For sheer off-the-wall audacity, Tim Burton's demented Beetlejuice certainly demands respect, even if it's more enjoyable in concept that in execution. [4 Apr 1988, p.72]
