Synopsis
Zombie movies are cool. Holiday movies are cool. High school musicals are cool. Anna and the Apocalypse is the unholy genre mash-up that begs the question: why not all three? This rowdy zom-com takes place in a small Scottish town, where Anna (Ella Hunt) and her teenage cohorts go from trying to survive school to singing and dancing their way through a full-blown outbreak of the undead. Funny, festive, gory, and toe-tappingly catchy, this movie proves that the best defense against a zombie apocalypse is a smile and a song. And also: weapons.

The "severed head in the ball return slot at the bowling alley" is an all-timer zombie gag
Patrick WillemsSep 23, 2018It is: Glee vs. Zombies. Hoped for: Shaun of the Grease Glad it wasn't: 28 Highschool Musicals Later. Fair enough. And a nice closing for this years Fantasy Filmfest. With heart, gore and good songs. Even if they often miss it to combine the tunes with the…
LeSchroeckIf there was a version of this movie that's gone through like 5 more script revisions it would be one of my all-time favorites

Did anyone else cry watching this? Please validate me
Sara ClementsDec 7, 2023Never been so disappointed with a movie before😢. The first half was so charming💚. The musical numbers & camp tone were perfect.💃🎶 Then it inexplicably decides to become the most depressing movie ever😭🔫. Last act is pure self-serious misery. A sad tonal mess😮💨.…
Jade talks too much🎅🏻🎄Sep 29, 2018When it's fun, it's fun, and the songs are great but the second half aims for serious emotional pathos and none of it lands for me.

bailey 🦇Dec 3, 2019I LOVED this...until I didn't. At some point, the movie runs out of steam, but those first few musical numbers are so giddy and fun that it's hard not to embrace this.

Good songs, but the story and plot were pretty lacking. The dialogue was also generally really predictable and cheesy. But the songs were awesome.

It's like high school musical switched genres and tried to do an homage to shaun of the dead. Cast could really belt and the musical numbers were strong and catchy. Choreography was a little off but it could've been on purpose since they are just supposed to be school kids.…

Show tunes meet Shaun of the Dead in the delightfully gruesome Scottish horror-musical Anna and the Apocalypse.

The results take neither the high road nor the low road, settling instead for an oddly bland middle course.

There’s a rich, hilarious novelty to the film’s juxtaposition of glittering pop and ultraviolence, but by virtue of the clear disconnect between story and song, that novelty quickly wears thin.
