christopher nolan definitely busted a nut to these practical effects at least once in his life
johnJan 6, 2020An astonishingly blunt (yet artful and humane) anti-war movie that presents World War I as grand-scale nihilism. German students are shipped off to the front lines on promises of glory and are treated to nearly unending horror, all to achieve a goal that’s both obscure and…
Scott TobiasJan 9, 2023The form hasn’t changed much in 100 years. Everyone is still cribbing from this.

So powerful and ahead of its time. The editing and camerawork are beyond impressive especially when you consider this was nearly 100 years ago!
Matt NegliaSep 7, 2020Raw and intense warfare mixed with a group of high school students. It’s as saddening and innocent as it sounds. As one of the earliest talkies and anti-war films, the realistic bombardment is visually impressive and distressing in its sound design. Despite noticeable…

For a moment there was silence... silence so loud that I felt every beat of my heart and the unevenness of my breathing. The landscape swallowed us all as the world moved on. In the end, no one, neither us nor the world, ever returned to what it once was. But we were left…
werskuApr 24, 2025The greatest anti-war film ever.
Jeremy CorbynJul 31, 2022World War One was a barbaric waste of human life, just to keep European colonialism and imperialism afloat. All Quiet on the Western Front comes from an era before World War Two, when the consequences of that earlier war were still strongly felt. Partially the film stems…

As of now, in 5 years this will be 100 years old, and even though it doesn't have blood and gore like war films nowadays, it's still raw and violent. We even got some moments of levity to break tension a little bit. Lastly, I don't have this rated higher simply because I do prefer modern-made war…
Made me cry and sob at Kats death in the end and I will never recover from this🧍♂️
this was a anti-war movie right in the middle of world war I and world war II played some roles by veteran world war I soldiers it is an amazing but very horrific sad story true story of what these poor soldiers went through we're all men we all think we're fighting for the right cause we all…

This movie was in production during the start of the Great Depression and my god, this was well made. The acting was a little cartoony, but I can’t fault it since people back then relied on silence films for body language and not voices. A very effective and important film.
there's a reason this movie is the only one to win both best picture and best director at the Oscars, it is a realistic, disturbing and complex meadowlark of human aggression. I've yet to see a better movie, it's message and it's creation are the epitome of masterpiece.

Incredible depiction of WW1 and the brutalities of it. Some the most chaotic war scenes I’ve seen. The way the development of shell sock is portrayed is almost frightening to see. All time classic, highly recommend for any war movie enthusiasts.
This movie is unbelievable. Shocking it came out so long ago because it is one of the most genuinely emotional films I’ve ever seen and the directing was great. The filmography is much better than some films made today. 9.3
