Excellent bizarro 70’s thriller that I was pretty obsessed with after reading about it in one of those old school 90’s giant horror movie review books and learning Brooke Shields was in it probably because young hormonal preteen me was obsessed with The Blue Lagoon and the…
Tony the TerrorOct 14, 2020They should shoot more horror movies on what appears to be film stolen off the set of a mid 70s Cheerios commercial. Makes it way scarier.
Branson ReeseNov 17, 2015Slept on this one, but so did history, apparently. It's from that wonderful period in horror when fully formed adults who have emotions and know how to write people made movies for other adults. This will never turn up on Criterion Collection like Rosemary's Baby or Don't…

gnarly little psycho catholic family giallo with effectively troubling use of religious iconography vs. the fetish/impulse towards suffering which is rendered in some pretty savage bodily harm. might be overrating a tad but as someone who went to catholic school but wasn't…

HailliIncredible texture to this film, all votive candles and faded photographs, chipped statues of christ and cockroaches on the faded wallpaper, and one of the scariest costumes for a masked killer in film history. A stunning indictment of the catholic church and the cycles of…

Perfidious American Giallo that creates an oppressive, nihilistic atmosphere. The church is the anti religious sanctuary of horror, the family is a place of alienation and kids are psychopaths. Alice's actress, Paula E. Sheppard, outplays everyone, especially the rather…
kat🕷Aug 16, 2015The rare catholic themed horror film that manages to find the genuine unsettling spot between faith and disruptive violent behavior. Unsurprising, the Italian influence is easier to spot. For a film that has a relative straightforward small scale slashing in the family set…
Filipe FurtadoJul 25, 2026The giallo-wrapped slasher «Alice, Sweet Alice» is a rather strange slasher film, very much like a Giallo. The script is completely toothless and weak. Some scenes are downright repulsive, especially the scene where the kitten is killed—it evokes more disappointment and…

I was constantly uneasy throughout the entirety of the movie which was enjoyable, but the acting would sometimes take me out of it. The plot twist did get me which was fun, but still left me a bit confused, same with the ending. The story was more important than the violence.
Wanted to revisit this after watching "The Bad Seed". Not my favorite Giallo, but it's got an interesting look for the killer, and some of the kills are mean. The reveal and twists aren't all that memorable, but the ending definitely is.

a bit slow and drawn out with minor plot holes, but a decent story that focuses on the fear and terror that can stem from catholicism. a very good cast!
