A bunch of idiots go to South America and pack the wrong clothes. Loved it.
Patrick WillemsJun 5, 2020A close-proximity, stylized documentary depiction of colonial cruelty and arrogance entering a feverish, bleakly slapstick jungle dreamscape and getting violently swallowed by the earth. Ants "conquering" a hill and calling themselves gods even while they slowly kill each…
Josh LewisMar 1, 2026First and foremost, an absolutely gorgeous and compelling watch. For me, if there is a deeper meaning in Aguirre beyond the more obvious exploration of power and madness, and man's insignificance versus the power of nature, it's about the seductive nature of the doomed…

KarstenJul 16, 2014Tribute to Ebert/U. of Chicago Graham School Class #3 Two biggest takeaways this viewing (besides just how indebted APOCALYPSE NOW is to it): 1. Aguirre is actually the sanest, most practical member of Pizarro's doomed crew of conquistadors. He doesn't lose his mind in…

A slow, transgressive, desperate plunge into hell and disarray with a standout performance from Klaus Kinski, who masterfully conveys the self-destructive nature of greed and power. A film fundamentally concerned with the essence of social structures and hierarchies that…
SethsreviewsSep 10, 2019"That man is a head taller than me. That may change." (Klaus Kinski as Don Lope de Aguirre) THIS JOURNEY INTO THE HEART OF MADNESS WOULD GO ON TO INSPIRE COPPOLA IN MAKING "APOCALYPSE NOW"
Two CineastsMay 14, 2026that fierce, concentrated Kinski stare as he looks down the camera and utters, "I am the wrath of God" is one of the most chilling shots of all time.

Reminded me a little of apocalypse now, made me feel a little dumb tho
Aguirre, the Wrath of God is hypnotic, poignant, and above all chilling. This is one of those films that after it’s over, it lingers in your mind for weeks. There was so much to unpack and admire that I think Im going to have to rewatch this soon. This was brilliant. 10/10

вообще, познакомилась с этим фильмом благодаря одноименному сайд-проекту перемотки прекрасный ост, атмосфера безнадёги, клаус кински 2 часа ходит и злым взглядом смотрит в камеру
Wild, fantastic depiction and critique of everything wrong with the machismo identity and the lust for colonization in one’s own name

Blonde “Spaniard” goes insane in the Amazon, feels very accurate and physical
Is it greed? Is it main character syndrome? Is it madness? All 3 bay-bee.
