Well, if you are expecting to see a movie about how the aliens picked this planet, this is not that movie! It was an unexpected story of survival of 2 adults struggling with emotional trauma and a cat! The acting was amazing! Not a lot of suspense, but a touching movie!
damn, i honestly expected more. it was good, just not where it should’ve been imo. the cat was the main character, too much screen time. yea he’s cute and all but i really wanted more of how it all started. not as thrilling & intense as part I & part II, the cinematography is beautiful tho. loved…
7.1 - doesn’t reach the level of the other two stories in this universe, but it was a good time. Lupita Nyong’o is absolutely one of the best face actors working today & was pretty damn perfect for this role. I appreciate Sarnoski’s approach to making this an emotional & human story over another…

This movie was so pointless. “Day One” should mean we get an idea of who the creatures are, where they are from and why they’ve decided to destroy mankind. We got none of that. We got a story of two people trying to survive an attack and keep quiet. We’ve seen that before. Twice! Remember the other two movies? What a waste of time and money. And the random splash of a character from one of the other movies was unnecessary for this wack story. WAIT TO SEE IT FOR FREE ON TV!!! The cat was the best part. Kudos to the cat!
The cat was the main character Lol
Metacritic
Nyong’o, Hounsou, Quinn and Wolff win our pity, our empathy and our respect as these New Yorkers face their fates at the beginning of a global nightmare which no one can see through, see past or realistically expect to survive. They make “Day One” both engrossing, and a great argument for why this “franchise” has said what it has to say and thus is ready to take its final bow.
This is a stylish and satisfying prequel that elegantly integrates Sam’s poet’s sensibility into the storytelling.
Like most of this series’s best action, the big bombastic noise is often a distraction from something far more intimate, and in Day One’s case, something far more existentially beautiful.
