B&B Movie Theatres

Atom Tickets partnered with B&B Theatres, the seventh largest movie theater chain in the United States, to give its movie-loving patrons an opportunity to experience white-glove service from the moment the movie planning begins.

The special story of B&B’s history will surely warm your heart. It all began with Elmer Bills, Sr. in 1924, when he bought the Lyric Theatre in Salisbury, Missouri and founded Bills Theatres. His wife played the piano alongside silent movies at the theater, and a few years later, Elmer Bills Jr. arrived.

In 1936, Elmer Sr. hired then 10-year-old Sterling Bagby to work concessions. Sterling grew up, fought in World War II and returned home to marry Pauline, who sold movie theater tickets at the Lyric. As husband and wife, they launched the Bagby Traveling Picture Show and carried their projection equipment, seats, snack bar and films throughout Missouri barns, schools and parks. It soon evolved into a group of drive-in theaters and “hardtops” (how they referred to indoor theaters back in the day).

Elmer Bills Jr. eventually took over the family business with his wife Amy, whom he calls “the best popcorn girl I ever hired.”

In 1980, the Bills and Bagby families joined forces and created B&B Theatres. Simultaneously, Sterling and Pauline’s son Bob married Elmer and Amy’s daughter Bridget—taking that joint venture to a whole new level. As the chain continued to grow, the company invested in major state-of-the-art upgrades to keep their theaters at the forefront of the industry.

The last really great fun fact we’ll share about this movie theater chain’s history? Bob and Bridget’s children Bobbie, Brittanie and Brock are the fourth generation to work in the family’s theater business—and the letter B is kind of a big deal in this story. Maybe there should be a movie about this family?

And now, in present time, B&B offers comfort-focused amenities like stadium seating, luxury electric recliners and high-back rocker chairs. Even though they have 400 screens in 50 locations in seven states, and over 1,400 employees, they stay true to their hometown roots: Elmer Bills Jr. still has a home in Salisbury, MO, where the Lyric Theatre still stands as a town landmark and the start of their story. The 38-seat movie theater provides an intimate, comfortable setting. It presents art house films, indie films and award-winning movies—delivering a unique movie theater experience—one that beautifully fuses old Hollywood with cutting-edge cinema technology. And if you’re looking for an impressive space to wow clients, employees, friends and family, it is rentable for private events!

At select B&B Theatres, movie lovers can go back in time and relive their favorite cult classics on the big screen. Retro Nights take place at least once a month, and they are perfectly paired with a ticket price from the past.

B&B also provides a sensory-friendly atmosphere to movie lovers with certain sensitivities. This inclusive environment features raised house lights, lower volume, and encourages openness and movement for those who face challenges in traditional theater settings.

Frequent moviegoer? B&B Theatres offers the Backstage Pass Loyalty Program—a rewards-based, members-only program that offers benefits like special popcorn promotions, access to exclusive events, Tuesday ticket pricing and surprises and discounts throughout the year. Bonus! You can link your Backstage Pass Loyalty Program account to Atom so you can earn points when you purchase tickets with the Atom Tickets app or on atomtickets.com.
