Moviegoers are saying
This George Washington biographical drama has struck a powerful chord with audiences seeking patriotic inspiration, earning passionate praise for its portrayal of America's founding father during his formative years before 1755. While most viewers celebrate its historical authenticity and stirring message about American values, some note pacing issues in the opening act and occasional Hollywood theatrics that detract from the historical accuracy.

george washington is rolling in his grave about the fact that he’s played by a british guy instead of a bald black man with a velvety voice

This movie will be best served during those chill 3 weeks after you’ve taken the APUSH exam.
Brandon WassermanJun 22, 2026The subject matter is interesting, and the production values are solid enough — some of the scenes of 18th century warfare are really immersive and intense — but the script and the lead performances just aren’t up to the task. JackJun 22, 2026ALRIGHT ALREADY I GET IT THAT A PAWN CAN DEFEAT THE KING. You don’t need to repeat that on the nose line like five times. The actor playing Washington slips out of his accent a noticeable amount of times. Very run of the mill structure and I’m not a historian but it doesn’t…

Solid Movie. I really enjoyed it. Only bummer is it only covers like a year or two in super depth which left me wanting to see more of his life.
Nova likedYoung WashingtonI’m irritated why was there so much Generative Ai?? They were blatantly obvious and distracting. The story was good and the actor’s hot that’s why it’s getting a good score from me no shade😂
call me mr V likedYoung WashingtonFun with good action beats. Didn’t imagine I was going to enjoy this as much as I did. Liked the acting and the dialogue was perfect. Need a part two, I wanna see more.

Landon Crawford lovedYoung WashingtonPerfect movie for the 4th of July, God bless America 🇺🇸 They nailed and Washington’s character from start to finish. The actor portrayed him very well and the story was a great representation of his perseverance. Wish it would’ve been longer so we could of seen him as President
Emilie lovedYoung WashingtonI really liked it and recommend watching it. I wish it covered more of after the battles and maybe a scene of signing the declaration, something. But it pretty much is over the span of a few years. Still a good watch. USA! Some people don’t like it because it’s slow, get over it

Young Washington genuinely inspired me. I loved how it framed failure as a teacher, not a defeat, and showed Washington learning, returning, and choosing better. The climax beautifully tied back to the beginning and gave real weight to his final decision. Powerful film.
vezy likedYoung WashingtonYou just went from farmer to major in seconds and now your making demands. Good movie. Thought they touched on the politics of the British and french and their armies well. British thought their soldiers were the best in the world and got a cruel reality check.
Dominic likedYoung Washington7.5/10 I’m not really a history guy, but this movie honestly surprised me! Learning about Washington’s early years was interesting and the major battle scenes were really well done. All the actors did great jobs and there were some surprising big names.

This one survives on strong performances and Erwin’s confident sense of place — not groundbreaking cinema, but a well-made piece of American cinematic history.

Although so-so “Young Washington” fulfils its baseline promise — Look! Washington! While young! — it doesn’t accomplish much more than that.

Young Washington informs and illuminates as it passes the time between blasts of action. It’s the life, love and struggle beyond the edges of the screen, events outside of the adventures, social slights and Red Letter Dates that seems lacking.
