Atom User Reviews for Wonka
Finally, some innocent movie with no hidden agenda
Best movie I’ve seen in a while! Much better than wish! The entire family loved it.
This was a really good musical. The whole family would enjoy it. It's not similar to Disney movies. It's more like the original Willy Wonka. The singing is good. This movie is set as a time before the Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder. They did a great job of choosing an actor for the main character. His looks make you think of a young Gene Wilder. His voice is good fit for the music. He doesn't sing in falsetto. Great movie.
We loved it. It’s a cute movie; funny and a lesson for young viewers. Follow your dreams and make them happen.
the movie ended and my daughter immediately said Best movie ever
i really enjoyed Wonka. tim challomey was yhe perfect young wonka. hugh Grant was funny
I loved this movie!! I almost cried a couple times such a cute movie
The movie started off well but I was unable to enjoy or stay to watch the movie due to people not being able to control there kids!!!! I
somewhat a musical.... you will enjoy
Very enjoyable! Wonka fills in the backstory of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Timothee Chalamet, a young Willy Wonka did a wonderful job creating the mystery and magic of Wonka’s world of imagination. The music, vocals, and dancing sequences were excellent. The story was interwoven with heartwarming emotion. Will the movie win academy awards, maybe not, but the time was well spent and I enjoyed the movie immensely.
both ironically and unironically funny. really good
Movie is mid but enjoyable, Not worth a second watch though.
I enjoyed it more than I thought. Cast did a great job and the writing was strong. Must see
I didn’t really expect much of this movie being a kid’s movie and all, but was pleasantly surprised and actually shed a few tears towards the end (I won’t spoil it though). Anyway, it was a very heartwarming movie about dreams, faith, joy and love. I thoroughly enjoyed it and even more surprising was that my husband loved it too!!
Have to say out of all the wonka movies they have done over the years this one was my favorite the story was good the songs weren’t to bad it had its funny moments all in all it was a good movie
Excellent performance
One of the most enjoyable movies of the last year. The only one that I will see again.
Thought it was going to be wack tbh… ended up liking it alot
Timothee can sing!
bland movie
This was a musical I was not a fan
Such a fun romp!
This movie is a great example of a reboot done right. Unlike Tim Burton’s Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, this story doesn’t just pay light hearted homages to Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka while adding some nice lighthearted spins for Willy’s Origin story instead of being dark and weird. The cast was perfect, the story was well paced and well told, the songs were wonderful and memorable! I think those who hate this movie are very biased and believing Hollywood has run out of ideas. This idea is actually genius and well deserved of a better reboot. See this movie if you love the Paddington movies or a fan of the original Willy Wonka, you’ll enjoy yourself and have food on hand lol 😂
Cute movie!
Reminds me of the movie Sweeney Todd
thus is the worst, most boring movie I have ever seen. disgrace to the franchise
It was boring and it was a singalong not worth it
Great Twist on the storyline for Willy Wonka
GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME
Such a beautifully made film. Enjoyed it so much!
Love it! Period.
Love it. I love wasn’t expecting to like it so much.
Wonka
I loved it! Alittle different from the others but still great,
Marvelous and Perfect!
According to most my opinion is unpopular but i love this film. Its not the story you expect and unless they do another one it doesn’t tie into previous films enough. But i love it as its own independent thing. I feel like everyone has made their minds up before seeing it, go watch it. Its great
great film, unique and adds to the Wonka world.
Clever. When he sang "Cone with me, and you'll see..." tears...
Immersive clever storytelling. I didn’t think that happened anymore. The lead actor was great. It did lack the satirical bite of the original but it was Way better than that Johnny Depp piece of awfulness
Such a great movie probably the best Wonka movie I've seen loved every part of movie.
I grew up loving Willy Wonka as a candy mascot. Own the previous two movies. Worth watching twice.
Chalamet killed it as wonka, if you love musicals then you will definitely love this
Great acting, story and ending! So MUCH better than I expected!
First time my kids have been to a movie. Decided that this one was a good one to start with and was not disappointed. Kept them entertained and laughing the whole time
Great Prequel! Great little plugs to the original Willey Wonka movie.
A good movie. Not exceptional but not bad - a good stand alone for Willy Wonka but not very true to character. Also… timothee chalamumu…
Very good for kids
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie!
LOVE IT!!
Lovely emotional experience
Metacritic
It's as enthusiastic yet inscrutable as Wonka himself, played with an elegantly withholding quality by Chalamet, who in moments of quiet contemplation and madcap inspiration could be Gene Wilder's long-lost grandchild.

While Wonka overfills its slate with two or three escalating climaxes, the throwaway verbal jokes en route keep the contraption humming.

In addition to committing to its sense of fun, Wonka reminds us that life is made sweetest by the people we share it with. If that’s not particularly novel, it’s still as comforting and scrumptious a notion as a chocolate bar.
