The classic story of Peter Pan is wildly reimagined in this ragtag epic from Benh Zeitlin. Lost on a mysterious island where aging and time have come unglued, Wendy must fight to save her family, her freedom, and the joyous spirit of youth from the deadly peril of growing up.

Couldn't watch after half an hour. Terrible videography! The camera was constantly shaking. Gave me a headache and made me throw up.

If you want another regurgitation of the Peter Pan story you will be sorely disappointed. However, if you dare to embrace something new, original, and decidedly NOT Disney you are in for a serious treat. The score and visuals are breathtaking a la Terrence Malick, and just like director Behn Zeitlin’s last feature (8 years ago) "Beasts of the Southern Wild" , it really taps into the mindset of a child in a grounded and realistic way. Give this movie your money and show Hollywood that you want more fresh takes that have some guts instead of more safe intellectual property movies (I'm looking at you, Marvel/Disney).

Wendy recognizably reflects Zeitlin’s vision; it’s less a follow-up to Beasts than a kind of echo of it. The mistakes the movie makes, and the ways it fails to fulfill its predecessor’s promise, make me want to say something critics rarely express: I wish that the studio had meddled a little bit more.

Wendy in every way feels like a handmade, one-of-a-kind, exceptionally fresh and — one hesitates to use the word — organic piece of work that quite quickly imparts a desire to see it again.

Wendy casts a powerful spell — the movie has the potency of a dusty folktale brought to vivid life — but it can be frustrating that Zeitlin doesn’t have much interesting to say beyond his stylistic flourishes and evocative atmosphere.
