Why did Alex Garland make this film? And why did A24 choose to distribute it? I felt it was necessary for me to attend an advance screening of this film in order to get ahead of the discourse. I thought that Alex Garland's Civil War was actually an incredibly visceral…

saw oomf comment this and had to do the same “America will bomb your country until there's nothing left, then come back 20 years later and make a movie about how sad their soldiers got from doing it.” —frankie boyle
flaming0godMar 24, 2025a soulless, insidious piece of pseudo-realistic propaganda. a film that postures as an anti-war statement while revelling in the exact kind of mindless, fetishized destruction that makes war look like an adrenaline-fueled power fantasy rather than the devastating atrocity…

85 Blood and smoke. There's no characterization here. Not a single flashback to American families at home. No talk of barbecues or ballgames. One of the soldiers tries to spark up a conversation during the mission and it's chalked up as embarrassing 'new guy' behavior.…
SilentDawnMar 17, 2025I think there are both extremely fair and bad faith critiques being thrown at this, and as limited as the scope is it’s clearly become the conversation starter that Mendoza & Garland were hoping it would be. Ray Mendoza could only make the movie he was able to make - a real…

8.3 - Harrowing, gut-wrenching, violent, unflinching. As anti-modern war as I believe any filmmaker would be allowed to make in Hollywood. The audience is forcefully shoved into intense, volatile, & ultimately unnecessary chaos right away, and never allowed a moment to breathe until the credits…
Ahoo likedWarfarehot men fighting for their lives. 8/10
Oakley Frank lovedWarfareHorrifying. That was the realest depiction of war dude! The movie takes you through every moment of this battle/extraction. You can tell everyone that was a part of this cared deeply about what they were doing. Definitely one of my favorite if not my FAVORITE war movie
- Nick is "meh" onWarfare
It was an extremely visceral, brutal, and intense depiction of war. However, as far as movies and storytelling goes, it felt way too succinct. There was zero character development, little context provided, no beginning, and no end.

Sam MacKay lovedWarfare9.0/10 - An insanely visceral snapshot of war, without the glorification. Masterful sound design has you boots on the ground with these soldiers in the theater

Amazing movie - Portrays brotherhood within military like ‘The wall’ featuring John Cena did. Please watch if you can. Definitely a cinema experience though, due to 3d like sound
Chris Hills likedWarfareTraumatising
zxki is "meh" onWarfareAs I've matured, I've educated myself on topics such as imperial warfare, especially when it comes to America and the Middle East. I won't get into my personal or political reasonings, but I will say my appetite for 'war' stories/films like these has dropped off. The only real reason I watched this…
