Atom User Reviews for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
It was like if the Fifth Element and Avatar had a baby.
It was a good story, just wish it had been recast. No chemistry between the two protagonists
The stupidest movie I ever see. No comparison to Avatar. 3D is just ok
A B-type movie with an A movie budget. With a few script cliches but still entertaining.
movie was great the theater was outrageous
Walked out 30 minutes in
Skip it. Watch The 5th Element again instead.
The writing was so bad it ruined the rest of the movie.
was unable to attend the movie... very disappointed and loss my money.
#Phenomenal
Not good at all. Should have actually just eaten my money instead.
Horrible dialogue, horrible acting, lame plot. The best characters in the movie were CG.
The lead actors were just awful and ruined a perfectly ok movie. Don't bother wasting your time
I fell asleep.
sooo boring and badly acted. wish I would have seen wonder woman instead
one of the worst movies I've ever seen...
It was better than ok, but not like that great.
Great with some questionable writing in a couple places but it more than makes up for it
the plot line could have been an hour shooter
Despite a formulaic plot, the visuals and concepts incorporated make up for it big time
loved it!
Worth the price of a 3D ticket!
it was amazing! Definitely worth another view.
This movie had you total immersed in this story from the start. There are some endearing and relatable characters. My personal favorite was Bubble. played by Rhianna
Must watch in 3D
Pulp sci-fi spectacle! Great adaptation of the old comic book.
At times romp, but undercut by the poor casting of the leads ans the simple story. The film wad. enjoyable, and visually stunning but leaves you wondering how it could have been better.
Great blockbuster. Can't wait to see more of this universe.
Wait for On Demand.. Rihanna is the only good part.. male lead is terrible. Dialogue is laughable. Wow.
good
Great CGI. Fun visuals. A bit bit predictable, but entertaining. I would see it again.
Great light hearted fun
Valerian is a great movie but it's very slow to the point and a very long movie but it gets exciting towards the end.
This was one of the most stunning movies I have seen in a long time. If you have read the comics if you have kids that have read the comics if you fans of the directors other works you have to see this film visually this movie is stunning!!!!!
Let's be honest, casting was questionable. Whoever casted Riri did a wonderful job though. Then they proceeded to ruin it.
Loved It!!
It was amazing. I loved it so so much. Great job
The characters are all garbage, every single person except Bubble and the pearls. No/plain terrible plot, so sexist i could explode, and it just makes no sense. That said, I loved it and I would even see it again. Only come if you want to see amazing world building and gorgeous scenes. It's absolutely beautiful, but that's it.
Beautiful visually but the two lead actors don't carry the movie well.
special effects was great
Valerian is a visual feast for the eyes. It's extremely entertaining and beautiful to experience. Packed with action and plenty of odd looking creatures, it's definitely worth seeing. It uses 3D elements wisely which compliments the framework of the film, immersing the viewer in the many engaging environments the main characters have to traverse. I liked the final resolution that Luc Busson chose and think it will be a good companion piece to his other work, the Fifth Element.
Definitely wierd
No actor chemistry
Had an ok story and some neat ideas and visuals, but was not exactly what i would call "family friendly." There were a few scenes that were edgier. Over all I was a bit disappointed.
Don't waste your money!
the casting in this movie is bizarre. The main characters look like they are 16 years old and way too young to be doing the things they do, but even more odd is the fact that the characters are either 16-20 or 50+
it doesnt help when the movie screen had a rip...
the romance subplot feels a little forced, but it is a great story with a well built world.
Not the fun ride i was expecting but still visually stunning and original.
It was a really good movie. Not a blockbuster worst seeing. It was just a good watch
Metacritic
There is no soul, and no heart to the story. A good sci-fi is never merely about the effects, it's about the plot, character and thoughts they bring to life, all of which Valerian lacks in abundance.
Valerian is a film to wallow in, not follow, and if you’re tuned to its extra-terrestrial wavelength, you wouldn’t cut a second.
In short, Besson builds a dazzling alterna-universe — a bit of Terry Gilliam, a dash of “Blade Runner,” a smidgen of “Star Wars” (which, to be fair, was probably influenced by the original comic), and a lot of extra-strength Besson-ian whimsy. And then he strands us with the two least interesting people there.
