Atom User Reviews for Tolkien: Live from The Montclair Film Festival with Stephen Colbert
A movie to reawaken the artist in me
The Theatre was unable to show the movie with Stephen Colbert live from Cannes....they refunded us....so disappointed
Movie was awesome but didn’t get to hear the live feed. Paid extra to see the live feed and didn’t get to hear or see it.
Tolkien before the Hobbits. Gives an insight into the mind of this genius. Nicely intersperses his youth with his experiences in WW1.
Great fan experience with the Q&A
The movie was swell. Tolkien fans will love it. Others may see it as a WWI movie with boring intervals. I too have a beef with Lennox Theater, who cut off the panel discussion exactly at 22:00 while it was still lively. In a few weeks I could have watched Tolkien at home but I spent the time and money for the live feed. There was no apology or explanation. Film: 4 stars. Lennox: 1 star.
I loved the movie and the live session hosted by Stephen Colbert with the Director, and the Actors playing J.R.R. Tolkien and Edith was very informative and entertaining!
I enjoyed the film but they did go a little excessive with the fantasy part of the film. I didn't get to enjoy the Live from the Montclair bit because my theater was not prepared and didn't know how to do anything.
Beautifully done, but I went in blindly hoping it would include his lawyer years and especially his relationship with C.S. Lewis and other great minds. My expectations reset, it is a very good film. The cinamatography and score are worthy of many nominations. This was clearly a labor of love for the actors and director. Thanks to Fathom for the advance showing with the geeked-out panel discussion!
The movie was great, but our theatre shut down the screen before the live session started and then we couldn't find any employees to fix it, so we didn't get to see that part of the showing.
Such a beautiful telling of a story. Just stunning
Beautifully told. The film introduces us to the magic and tragedy of Tolkien’s mind and relationships from childhood onward. Lovely cinematography. I’ve never been happier with an impulse buy.
Movie was great, Q&A was informative and entertaining.
This movie delved into creativity, love, magic, friendship, war, loss and legacy. Beautiful cinematography, excellent cast. It was so much more than I expected. However, if you don't like "talky" movies, this not for you.
