"If you come up to Tokyo again, mother, please come visit again." "Yes... But I'm afraid I won't be coming back. I know you're busy, but do try to come to Onomichi." "I'd really like to, if it were a bit nearer." "You're right, it's so far away." What nobody told me…

KarstenAug 23, 2013Tokyo Story is poignancy refined and redefined. The entire film is poetic, heart rending and is immensely soulful. From the strikingly beautiful Japanese country side wearing a sultry look, the most humbly built homes on earth, with a score as sweet and soothing as a…

Ouch. This broke me. I generally try to stay away from being overly personal with my writing on here for fear of oversharing but it feels only appropriate here. My grandparents on my mothers side are creeping into their nineties. Obviously, this is an achievement in…

6/10 Sad tale about the fragility of life, following a Japanese family after the war. The last 30 mins was the best part, leaving behind an eerie feeling of loneliness and stripping it down to show the harsh reality of human nature. I wanted to love it but it’s just so slow.

An honestly beautiful story about aging and how disappointing life can be, but how important it is to accept it.
Such a tender, moving and kind of sad watch, will make you feel grateful for your parents and grandparents
