The key sequence for understanding this movie is when Cary Grant evades capture by the police by disguising himself in a pair of swim trunks and going to the beach.

Not sure what I was more enamored with— the lighting of the rooftop scenes or Grace Kelly. (The answer is Grace Kelly)
Joe AMay 18, 2022To the critics who bemoaned on the release of “To Catch a Thief” that it lacked Alfred Hitchcock’s usual suspense, I ask: Is the wonderment of what Grace Kelly will wear in the next scene not enough? There is a marked lack of psychopaths with thirsty daggers in “To Catch…

92 Ravenous filmmaking in the guise of a hangout travelogue. Cary Grant juggles police presence and the flirtations of Grace Kelly like a beach bum after an expensive lunch-date - meaning there's not a narrative drive to be found. Instead, Hitchcock distills his chief…

Grace Kelly was giving all the other actresses a run for their money in those days, especially in the scene in the beach water. Cary Grant has more charisma than 90% of actors today, if not more. I wish the reveal could've been better, but Hitchcock doesn't make bad films.
Edith Head, cinema’s most legendary costume designer, wrapped Kelly in creations that shimmered with quiet seduction. Though Cary Grant lingered at her side and the French Riviera glowed in the background, it was Kelly who commanded my gaze.

Well picked actors but too much of the story takes place off camera. Wasn’t engrossed. Kelly is a vision. Grant is a stud as usual.
I think this is my first Hitchcock movie and it was maybe a little slow but it was a good movie anyway with great suspense.

The vistas were gorgeous, but the plot and characters were pretty bland.
Absolutely perfect movie! One of my faves with a classic….Cary Grant.

Hitchcock's superbly insouciant crime caper from 1955 must surely be one of the last movies in which the American super-rich are indulged so extravagantly and adoringly – the kind of people who stub their cigarettes out in fried eggs.
To Catch a Thief does nothing but give out a good, exciting time.
