Ambition makes you look pretty ugly. Kicking, screaming, Toshiro Mifune.
Got way too stoned watching this and couldn't stop staring into the eyes of the horses.
83/100 "What if we just ditch all the poetry and have Macbeth and Banquo get lost in the fog for like five solid minutes?" Rather than attempt to situate Shakespeare within a cinematic context, as most everyone else does, Kurosawa essentially looks past the Bard back to…
rare instance where being cast as “tree” would actually be sick
some of the best black-and-white photography i've ever seen! the contrast in the evil spirit scenes are legit insane. one of my favorite mifune performances too, he really had one of the most expressive faces of any actor.
Pretty good although I have to say it reminded me a lot of Macbeth
90/100 Throne of Blood begins with a startling sense of atmospherics, igniting an aura of spookiness and foreboding danger that continues from the first frame until the last. Akira Kurosawa has always been one for character-driven spectacle, but in this…
Pretty good movie. Would have been perfect if there was an actual throne made of blood though.
Who knew the tragedy of Macbeth would've worked so miraculously in a Japanese setting? Akira Kurosawa's take on the Shakespeare classic has all the style, grace and aftertaste to rival for the most entertaining and artistic adaptation of the story, and is a testament to…
Closer to a dislike than a like, but I don’t think it was bad. Just couldn’t keep up with it. Appreciate the vision and plot, but I was distracted while watching and couldn’t keep up Ending was sick
a bit slow and funny at times when it shouldn't be which shows its age. pretty decent considering I wasn't bored while watching it :3
1st order of business, an amazing performance by Toshirô Mifune & Isuzu Yamada who were simply flawless, yet another of Akira Kurosawa, and I can't stress this enough, this man found the true formula for perfection, making me remember amazing past works of legends such as him!
The movie was just Macbeth with Samurai. It’s pretty good tho. The acting was interesting and their take on the final prophecy was fairly interesting and sticks to the true nature of the parent story. The story felt very rushed, things could’ve been added to aid the pacing.
One of the greatest Shakespeare adaptations of all time. Kurosawa was one of the greats and shows his genius through every shot and line of dialogue. The performances are fantastic and that last ten minutes was incredible.
what a compelling and ingeniously done macbeth adaptation. considering when this was made, it could be labeled as almost perfect. the costumes, the acting, the cinematography, all absolutely amazing
Isuzu Yamada did the Herculean task of out performing Toshiro Mifune, she takes up permanent residency in my closet as my nightmare demon
this is the real macbeth, very compelling lead actor, love the final third, especially final scene.
Not my favorite Kurosawa, but it’s still very good.
