the movie isn’t the best but i can’t help but feel warm and safe and at peace whenever i’m seeing river. he was just so pure and kind and had such a soft heart (and voice) and i can’t help but wonder what if.

It was a good movie! An old time romcom, I love everything River is in. Otherwise I wouldn’t have watched this movie. Their relationship was toxic at times but it was fun to watch. 3.5 out of 5 stars!

But at the center of the film is an actor whose mind and heart are far, far away, and he is like a black hole, consuming light and energy. He's running on empty. Sometimes there are even scenes where you can sense the other actors scrutinizing Phoenix in a certain way, or urging him, with their tones of voice, to an energy level he cannot match. It is all very sad.
