the color palette they used to grade this is 100% just a way to make paul newman’s eyes look bluer and the blood on robert redford’s mouth look redder, and you know what? i agree.

"Your boss is quite a card player, Mr Kelly; how does he do it?" "He cheats." (Robert Shaw as Doyle Lonnegan to Robert Redford as Johnny Hooker) THE BEST CON ARTIST MOVIE EVER MADE, WITH BOTH, NEWMAN AND REDFORD ON FIRE
Two CineastsMar 7, 2015And there it is. The Allrounder. The movie that captures and defines every single thing that provides escapism and entertainment. When I was a kid and was learning to play the piano, one of the first things I could play by heart was Joplin's 'The Entertainer'. Hearing…
DirkHJun 1, 2021Pristine narrative and formal economy, so classical it might as well have been actually filmed in 1936.

paul newman with blood on his shirt: here’s looking at you, kid *winks* robert redford with blood leaking out the sides of his mouth: *smiles* me: *sobs violently*
eelyJul 1, 2020this may be one of the most overused phrases in the book, but I believe it's more than fitting to say that they truly don't make films like this anymore
liam fMay 24, 2021Everything is so smooth and cleverly constructed even the audience is fooled by the end. Clean, stylish, lots of fun. The title cards were a nice touch too.

One of the best “long-con” movies out there while intermixed with comedy. I was surprised to be familiar with most of the music in this film, so it kind of helped engage me in the setting and story a bit more. Some of the acting is a bit stiff and some pets move slowly, but solid
A terrific film with great comedy that has one of the best duos ever to grace the screen. I had to honour the great Robert Redford by watching what is considered one of his best films. He really had such a presence in every single film he was in, especially in his early days.

I will admit I wasn't digging this at first, but the twists in the end had me surprised. I didn't find the characters interesting to follow and their setup for the con, even though they're a brilliant cast. It was all worth it, though, for those twists.
spoiler : i knew that woman whould be that one killer and also when they started shooting each other i was shocked+scared no it shouldnt end like this and after all is good i was calm and happy one of the best movies from my watcheds so far 🔥

Such a fun movie, tons of twists and turns and I never knew what was gonna happen next. Paul Newman and Robert Redford was fantastic and all the set design was great. Not much else to say other than it was great.
8.1/10 Really cool to see the twists and misdirections that I love in some of my modern film favorites, executed to perfection in a movie well before my time. Shoutout to my Dad for putting me on.

The Sting is the most purely enjoyable film in Oscar history – and that, I think, puts it in the most valuable American film-making tradition of all.
In an era full of auteur-driven turbulence in Hollywood, The Sting stands out as a model of old-school craft, a richly appointed studio production with big stars and a premium on efficiency and pace.
