Paramount and Nickelodeon just won’t let Stephen Hillenburg rest peacefully by releasing another cash-grab SpongeBob film. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run is an animated adventure film telling the story of SpongeBob who, along with Patrick, embarked on an adventure…

I think any movie that has a “Livin’ la vida loca” needle drop can’t actually be that bad.

This is the first SpongeBob content I have ever consumed. I feel like Neo. My eyes are open.

Was not expecting my first theatrical experience in months to feature a Snoop Dogg led musical number that goes on for several minutes.

Sweet, silly, with that profoundly bizarre world view that makes a snail trail gag open to everyone for a laugh, this may not change SpongeBob forever, but it's more SpongeBob as we love him, and that's all the fun you can need.

Stretched out to 90 minutes in Sponge on the Run, the pacing lags, the goofiness sags, and you discover over time that there’s not much holding these antics together.

SpongeBob, in whatever form it takes, does one thing and does it really well: absurdist humor with a sweet center. I’m hesitant to ever say that this-and-such thing is “what we need right now,” so I won’t say that about the film. But I will say that SpongeBob is what we need all the time. The more the merrier.
