This movie made my heart flutter. I love how it inspired “You’ve Got Mail” but this film has a charm that the remake just doesn’t. The characters are so likable (especially Pepi) and it’s such an enjoyable watch. Not to mention that James Stewart is just plain nice to look at!
Cute as heck!! Inspo move for my favorite musical (she loves me) & you’ve got mail. Adorably tall leading man, classic romantic. TW: implied suicide attempt (I promise it isn’t a sad movie)

Such a simple little story that works because each character has something quirky about them, and it's so important for a film based mostly in one location.
love love loved it. to think there was an old hollywood rival coworkers to lovers office romance lying right under my nose

Interwoven with subplots centered on the other members of the shop's little family, the romance proceeds through Lubitsch's brilliant deployment of point of view, allowing the audience to enter the perceptions of each individual character at exactly the right moment to develop maximum sympathy and suspense.
This is a sharp, elegant, unsentimental picture in which Stewart plays a character who is often gloomy and downright unsympathetic.
A pretty kettle of bubbling brew it makes under Mr. Lubitsch's deft and tender management and with a genial company to play it gently, well this side of farce and well that side of utter seriousness.
