I maintain that the scene with the guy in the bear costume is just something random and nobody in the film had any idea what it was supposed to mean.

a classic. i’ll admit it’s very slow paced but i feel like that somehow makes it even more off-putting. it all pays off during the climax tho because the stress while watching it is crazy
Keilani Valentin Collazo dislikedThe ShiningControversial opinion but this movie is SO SLOW. The actors did a great job and scenery is amazing but the pacing needs some work. Would highly recommend the book over the movie, it does have its slow sections as well but I found it much more entertaining than the movie 🤷🏻
Ryan Fuss lovedThe ShiningJust bloody brilliant

Is it a horror movie? Or is it a movie full of symbolism? After you watch it think outside the box. 8.1/10

carah lovedThe ShiningA classic, must watch
- Juan Zarza lovedThe Shining
They did a fantastic job making this movie eerily unsettling. You feel that feeling almost as soon as the movie starts, and that feeling progresses more and more. It's not a typical "jumpscare" horror movie, but it is very unsettling, and I honestly love it. 8/10.
Sabrina Bondi likedThe ShiningThe Shining might be one of the most accessible classics to new viewers of today to understand why it is, in fact, one of the greatest and most influential horror films of all time. The ending is still mind-blowing after all these years.
Jay dislikedThe ShiningFor years I’ve tried so hard to like this but I just can’t get behind it. The score feels so out of place and dramatic for a movie where not much happens. Shelly Duvall was amazing obviously and was the only reason I finally finished the movie. I do see why it’s a classic but it’s just not for me.

Disappointing... Jack Nicholson parodies himself while Kubrick fails to provide any thrills. [11 July 1980, p.8]

It’s the experience more so than the actual content of The Shining that radiates cold, anti-humanly indifferent terror.
Eric Henderson
Slant Magazine
The unhurried pace, extended dialogue scenes and those sudden, sinister inter-titles (One Month Later, 4pm) contribute to the insidious unease. Nicholson's performance as the abusive father who is tipped over the edge is a thrillingly scabrous, black-comic turn, and the final shot of his face in daylight is a masterstroke...Deeply scary and strange.
