Del Toro’s genius for wonderful story telling and creature design really stands out, making this his best movie since Pan’s Labyrinth. Sally Hawkins (Eliza Esposito) and Doug Jones ( Amphibian Man) both turn in a wordless performances that get across the star-crossed romance between these two.

Visually stunning with amazing art direction but the romance is was marketed as was severally lacking. All relationships are fully fleshed between characters besides that of our protagonist and the monster. Beautiful idea but poor delivery.

Absolutely stunning film, from the environment to the costume design to the sound steak. Great acting and chemistry between characters on screen. There're several underlining message you can take from the film, but it is overall a gorgeous romantic film.

Not what I expected. Very different. Unique mixture of genuine, gentle, loving, vulgar, cruel, and violent. Artfully done. Another view of racism, bigotry and life. So much was thrown into this movie, there will be many points of view.

The Shape of Water is first and foremost a genre picture. And as that, it’s a loving homage to cinema from an age where movies couldn’t be as obvious about this forbidden subject or that unspoken sexuality. It’s a good film of its type, just not a great one.
