love how michael bay turns the basement of alcatraz into a weird derelict steampunk hollow-earth rollercoaster with videogame fire-traps and sewer levels
comrade_yuiMay 15, 2017What a great freaking movie. So what happened? Was Michael Bay replaced by a Body Snatcher or something?

Christian Di LeoMay 23, 2013The first strands of Bay DNA gloriously infect and begin mutating the quintessential American action film. Like a poisonous chemical rendered aerosol, it's about to destroy the city, and we never saw it coming.
matt lynchApr 1, 2022Bay's best movies live in that exact intersection of ugly, unhinged American id and stunningly, nonsensical virtuoso craft. You can definitely see those Bay-isms starting to form here in the visual construction but my overall opinion on this remains mostly the same. Fun…

Action! - Three Auteurs: Bayhem Often referred to by many as Bay’s best film, on this rewatch (my second overall), I could get behind that. It has all the style and great camerawork from Bay, with one of the most 90s Zimmer-rousing score and dumb, campy fun that, for…
Rafael "Mister Movie" JovineJun 12, 2026still astonishing how long it takes for this to largely be set in its titular attraction, with extended sequences allowing for Sean Connery to get a haircut, destroy downtown San Francisco and drive Nicolas Cage insane in the process — a buddy movie in the truest sense
Justin LaLibertyApr 29, 2012"Look, I'm just a biochemist. Most of the time, I work in a little glass jar and lead a very uneventful life. I drive a Volvo, a beige one. But what I'm dealing with here is one of the most deadly substances the earth has ever known, so what say you cut me some FRIGGIN'…

I miss Don Simpson movies. They just don’t make them like this anymore. This film still holds up after all these years. Enjoyed it with @katerinaquinn on a trip to San Francisco, of course.
8.2/10. Has a few plot holes but in general if you’re into this type of movie, it’s fantastic
The intense energy throughout the course of this film made it an absolute treat to watch. This movie really made me miss 90s action films because it has everything that you need for an enjoyable action packed thrill ride. The adrenaline, story, everything was great. 9.5/10

Makes a strong case for the greatest action movie of the 90s. Over-the-top Nic Cage plus stern-and-angry Sean Connery… a magical combination. Rewatchability is a 10 out of 10. Can’t pass this up for a million dollars. Just too much fun!
Soooooo enjoyable. Strong late 90s / Early 2000s Nicholas Cage Vibes (Con Air / Gone in 60 Seconds) - coupled with legit good acting from Sean Connery and Ed Harris. Loved this movie

Nicolas Cage yet again steals the show with his seemingly undecided and unhinged character. Unironically using the phrase “A-hole” will always live in my mind rent free.
It’s peak ’90s action spectacle done right. Practical explosions, sharp pacing & strong character interplay make it endlessly rewatchable.
