- Filming started in November of 2017. However, due to Blake Lively's hand injury (which occurred in December 2017), filming was halted in February 2018 for Lively's recovery. Filming resumed in June 2018. The film's release date was also delayed at least twice. It was originally scheduled for a 22 February 2019 release, before being delayed ten months, and then being rescheduled again, for release on 31 January 2020.
- The Cinema Blend blurb used on the back of the DVD packaging boldly states that "BLAKE LIVELY is a COLD-BLOODED ASSASSIN." However, her character Stephanie struggles very much with the act of killing. Target 1 died from a lung condition while fighting Stephanie (who balked at an easy chance to shoot him). Target 2 was killed by Boyd when Stephanie chickened out. Target 3 was killed by his own bomb. Target 4 is the only one that Stephanie actually assassinates. Either the blurb was taken out of context or the reviewer only watched the end.

The Rhythm Section is very much the slow burn. There is much action in it but not to the extent of big Blockbuster movies. Like I felt with Gemini Man, The Rhythm Section would have benefited greatly from being a series rather than a movie. There was just so much to explore and enjoy including the performances of Blake Lively and Jude Law. They were really good! It's a shame that this movie won't get the accolades it deserves.
If you like revenge movies this is okay. Blake Lively is trying something different but she is seen here. The real treat is seeing her character go through the movie. Like’A Simple Favor’ a nice film for her to be in
Fortunately, there's Lively, adopting a convincing British accent, who almost, but not quite, manages to infuse the convoluted goings-on with enough gravitas to make them convincing.
Like the book, Reed Morano’s film is long on atmosphere and short on the kind of detail a spy thriller needs to be credible.
The Rhythm Section takes well-worn genre material and removes all the substance and ingenuity, leaving behind only an undeveloped plot, a blank main character, and a sense of gravitas that is entirely unearned.
