when he puts his finger in the paper flower… good lord
jourdain searlesSep 10, 2021Uses a gorgeous western backdrop (including a marvelous Jonny Greenwood score) to stage a very subtle duel of shifting power dynamics/gender roles and psychosexual tension. Not the movie I expected going in and it takes quite a while to reveal itself—Campion is very patient…

It’s brings a very good view of toxic masculinity and hiding your true self. Benedict Cumberbatch does an outstanding job portraying a closeted man while trying to stay on top. Truly loved this film & respect to its director.
Pretentious beyond belief. Bored throughout, no plot don’t waste your time!

Again, I wish for a “meh” button, because while there were some thought provoking surface level ideals, a lot of this movie felt dull and pretentious, to a guy who loves the slow and ambiguous. It’s technically great, but for a movie that sounds perfect for me, it really bored me
Every man needs to watch. The fight between masculinity and internal desire is incredibly powerful throughout the story. This film made me feel so many things for every single one of the characters. Definitely a very important film that needs to be given a chance by everyone. Wow

A few nights ago my friends and I watched this for the first time, and they found it so boring that we watched it at 1.5x speed. But today I went back and rewatched it by myself and it’s actually one of my favorite movies now. I love slow burn westerns with incredible detail
Cumberbatch gives an amazing lead performance. His despicable behavior doesn't become understandable until the last act, but the development is great. Smit-McPhee shows he is one of the more underlooked younger actors right now. Great cinematography and great directing.
Didn’t like this movie. Beginning was very confusing and it was hard to follow what was happening. The bad cowboy slang and words made it worse to follow. I did look up the plot mid movie to see where it was all going before it made sense. Overall I wouldn’t recommend.
