One of the most unhinged endings I've ever seen. Preston you madman they should've given you the medal of honor for that
Patrick WillemsJan 9, 2021“The Palm Beach Story’s” last 45 seconds contain either the most astoundingly stupid or stupidly astounding plot twist in all cinema. Truly, this is an ending that would make M. Night Shyamalan clutch his pearls and gasp. But before those 45 seconds... director Preston…

and they lived happily ever after… or did they?
marcela 💌Mar 17, 2026you have no idea what a long legged woman can do without doing anything. Less like a story and more like a runaway train, it just keeps on going from one scene to another. It even starts in a rush right from the opening credits… people running, a wedding half seen,…
Rocky🕵️🎞️Mar 16, 2021If there’s one takeaway from the Preston Sturges binge I had today, it is my love for classic screwball comedies. The Palm Beach Story isn’t as thematically resonating as Sullivan’s Travels nor has it the staying power of entertainment that The Lady Eve has but it is…

Sally Jane BlackDec 18, 2020One of the great endings of cinema based on the (rounding up) zero percent of cinema I’ve seen. Like shooting the audience with a Chekhov’s gun that you just had in your pocket the whole time. Sure it drags a little but what are you gonna do about it? You’re dead. Shot in…
Branson ReeseJan 14, 201582/100 A.V. Club review. McCrea's Tom is a bit too staid and noble to make this one of Sturges' very best, but the relentless and frank emphasis on monetary matters is genuinely bracing. A movie that could only have been made immediately following a Depression.

Not as big as a fan compared to other screwball comedies, but Claudette Colbert carries this one. I liked Joel McCrea in a previous movie I watched before this, and here he's okay. The ending was so bizarre, but in screwball anything can happen. I'm all for it!
