Synopsis
The NeverEnding Story tells the story of Bastian (Barret Oliver) who, on his way to school one day, ducks into a bookstore to avoid bullies. Sneaking away with a book called "The NeverEnding Story," Bastian begins reading it in the school attic. The novel is about Fantasia, a fantasy land threatened by "The Nothing," a darkness that destroys everything it touches.

Halfway through this bullshit, the title seemed less like a fairy tale and more like a threat.

The idea of the story within a story is one of the nice touches in The NeverEnding Story. Another one is the idea of a child's faith being able to change the course of fate. Maybe not since the kids in the audience were asked to save Tinker Bell in Peter Pan has the outcome of a story been left so clearly up to a child's willingness to believe.
