Pretty cut and dry procedural, but a great addition to the "reasons to hate the United States" canon. Jodie Foster stans rise. 2021 Ranked
johnJan 13, 2021Things the movie wanted me to learn: how an inexcusable abuse of human rights stemmed from a fragile post 9/11 America What I actually learned: Guantanamo Bay has a McDonalds
Oliver SwiftFeb 27, 2021Kevin Macdonald's legal drama, 'The Mauritanian', based on the 2015 memoir Guantánamo Diary, follows the story of Mohamedou Ould Salahi, a supposed 9/11 recruiter, as he fights for freedom after being detained and imprisoned without charge by the U.S. Government for 14…

byrneJan 11, 2021Well-written, intriguing, and full of surprises, The Mauratinan manages to avoid the pitfalls of a well-worn story with an incredible central performance from Tahar Rahim and boldly directed sequences that explore the horrors of a system of justice with a unique narrative…
diego andaluzApr 22, 2021Imagine you're at a friend's wedding, it's a month since 9/11 happened and the local cops show up and say that they want to ask you some questions about your cousin, can you come to the station? You decide, hey what's the worst that can happen? Why not just comply as you've…

A flat and scattered judicial docudrama that unpacks the case of Mohamedou Ould Salahi with the crude imprecision of a courtroom sketch artist, Kevin Macdonald’s “The Mauritanian” is buoyed only by Tahar Rahim’s humane performance as a Guantanamo Bay prisoner who spent 14…
davidehrlichMar 5, 2021An absolutely amazing film based on a true story with Great acting and wonderful Cinematography, The movie is indeed slow but I guess it was never made to be a commercial one, Tahar Rahim must be nominated for the Oscars as best leading Actor. Highly recommend!!
MobasshirDec 15, 2020THE MAURITANIAN features a virtuoso performance from Tahar Rahim that grips you at every turn, even if the story hits a few worn & familiar beats. Benedict Cumberbatch should never attempt this accent again & I wish Foster was given more to do but this is a solid film…

Incredible acting and the torture scenes have been burned into my occipital cortex now. I enjoyed this movie and rewatched it as well. 8.5/10
Spectacular job balancing perspectives & bringing this humongous issue to light. It rlly makes you question what’s true &, by extension, what’s moral. Like 12 angry men but w/torture & bigger implications. + that cut was COLD & the single thing almost convincing me to ❤️ this

I liked it better than just like. At times it was hard to watch. At times there was levity. I believe at its best it gave an honest look into GTMO. This is a very well put together documentary.
Interesting true story I was unfamiliar with. A little slow in parts and it was really hard getting over cumberbatch’s southern accent. But overall good.

I missed this one during the run up to the 2022 Oscars, but it was quite good. A searing look at the Guantanamo Bay detentions
7/10 Guter Film mit erschreckendem Inhalt. Manche Szenen sind schwer zu ertragen. Aber selten so einen schönen Abspann gesehen
