you're either on board with a kung-fu movie screeching to a halt so that a fat, opium-addicted Russell Crowe can scream "MY NAME IS JACK KNIFE" at an entire brothel or you're not
The Last KeltonJul 27, 2023If there's one thing this film clearly doesn't lack is in it's style. Everything about the film's technical execution—its cinematography, gadgets, characters like Mr. Knife or the man with the iron spikes himself, and production design—is fantastic. Many will be aware of…
Rafael "Mister Movie" JovineFeb 16, 2013RZA... How the fuck do you even pronounce that? Anyway, you can tell RZA really tried to make a good movie and make a homage to the kung fu genre, a genre he really cares about by the looks of it, but that doesn't change the fact this is still the work of an…

vaguely remember seeing this in 2012 but had little to no memory of it. very fun! blatantly exists in the same mode as tarantino's exploitation pastiches of the same era but there's something uniquely thrilling about the lack of control here, rza obviously isn't as skilled…
Josh LewisMay 26, 2013Obviously this was made by someone who loves the kung fu genre; that obsession comes through loud and clear. But that's about all RZA's good at communicating. He's a totally forgettable leading man, his script is a mess, and his action scenes aren't nearly exciting or…
Matt SingerFeb 7, 2013this is actually a good bit of fun. evidently there's an epic 4-hour-ish cut out there, and while i think that would help with the choppy editing and sloppy narrative, i see no reason for this to be longer than it is, nor do the aforementioned issues cause nearly as much of…

This is the tallest heap of burning trash I’ve seen in a very long time. The direction is absolutely abysmal and the dialogue made me froth from the mouth. I loved it so much and can’t wait to see it again.
adrianJul 9, 2022It can’t be overstated how important the Kung Fu boom of the 1970s was for the American Black community. There was a shared divergence from a dominant white culture onscreen. These films from overseas allowed stories about anti-imperialist rebellion, oppression and…
Jack🧠Dec 18, 2012Part of Dastardly Difficult December: film nr.60 I'm not down with the hippety hop crowd so I have no idea who RZA is. I do know he is a mediocre director at best and a very poor actor. So how he was allowed to make this is beyond me as I feel there is a decent film…

Had good action and an amazing soundtrack ofc since rza directed but like where was tarentino. Cause this was so bad and had terrible cgi. They barely even played white dress. What made this much better was how interesting Jack knife and the other Asian guys weapons were.
there is a very good reason you have not heard of this film
