My all-time FAVORITE filmnoir, whodunit, and on the silver screen no less! Fell in love when about 9 y.o. (a long time ago) and have seen it on the TV screen many times, but never in a theatre,,,what a treat!

My husband and I were SO excited to be able to see The Maltese Falcon on the big screen. We have watched it many times on tv but this was an experience we were thankful to have! The movie is amazing and so well done!

The Maltese Falcon is really a triumph of casting and wonderfully suggestive character detail; the visual style, with its exaggerated vertical compositions, is striking but not particularly expressive, and its thematics are limited to intimations of absurdism (which, when they exploded in Beat the Devil, turned out to be fairly punk). But who can argue with Bogart's glower or Mary Astor in her ratty fur?
