Genuinely beautiful. Yeah I'm a sucker for overlong corny schmaltzfests, what of it?

Steven CarrierJan 1, 2014This is the film where people think Frank Darabont went a little off the rails. Considered a cheesy and impractical story, The Majestic has been met with heavy criticism and harsh reviews. I, whilst realizing this isn't a perfect film, certainly swing the other way. You…

Even in a movie within a movie, Bruce Campbell is awesome.
Silent JFeb 25, 2024Even with the poor critical reviews it's gotten, I still found The Majestic a joy to watch. Surely, it's of a different caliber than Shawshank, but it's Frank Darabont! There is, of course, some good stuff in it. The film is mostly predictable and derivative. It relies…

There’s something so charming about sentimental 90s/2000s Hollywood. The manipulative score is nearly nonstop and the story beats often expected, yet somehow it works more than it doesn’t. The warm colors and nostalgic cinematography make for a comfy watch every time, even…
Joel HaverSep 7, 2025A charming film about a bigtime screenwriter who returns to a small town after losing his memory, The Majestic really does have a little magic sprinkled in. I feel like this film gets some hate and I'm not sure why. I think Jim Carrey is fantastic here and I loved the…
AlliMay 16, 2013A sweet movie that has no problem being just what it is. Sentimental scenes work because everyone knows what they're doing and have no pompous ideas of being anything they're not. Martin Landau is a clear standout and Bruce Campbell shows up briefly to kick some ass with a…

7.5/10 No idea why this has such a bad meta critic rating, I thoroughly enjoyed it despite how long it was. As much as it was an emotional rollercoaster it was extremely predictable. I found it a nice break from the heavier and more convoluted stories that I’m used to.
Cheesy at parts but it’s sincere and pretty unique story. Good performance by Jim Carey! ( wasn’t expecting him to have a role like this)
This is my third Frank Darabont film and I can say it’s definitely not as good as his other films but that does not mean it’s not a great movie, it just so happens that his other films are absolute masterpieces. This film has great emotion, plot, characters and writing! Very good

I haven’t see Jim Carrey play very many serious roles but he did really well in this one. I enjoyed the story and music, as well as the court scene towards the end!
One of Jim Carrey’s more restrained yet loving performances. I don’t understand why people hated this, it was bittersweet and heartfelt.

It’s good. The concept quite tropey but it’s good. It drove me crazy how tropey it is but it’s good. ⭐️⭐️🌗
Hit especially hard considering the times we’re in. Highly recommend the watch. America needs to do better.
