I’m sorry to my fellow Lord of the Rings fans, but The Hobbit is better

10.0 - pretty perfect. Story is all time, characters are intro’d well, score is powerful, acting is phenomenal, effects are strong, makeup & costumes flawless. There’s humor & suspense. It never feels as long as it is. Just a masterpiece. Not a single note.
zxki likedThe Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the RingFor 2001, this is an insane level of fantasy. I don't think fantasy in terms of movie-making was ever at this level. The details and camera tricks in nearly every frame are so refreshing, compared to what we had gotten before and get today. It's my first time watching LotR, I gave it a go a while…

I must watch film for any human being. Required viewing. The best example of literature to celluloid ever made. That’s about it. Carry on.
Cyclical likedThe Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the RingIt feels like the trend of my reviews lately has been “I can’t believe I didn’t watch this sooner” - this is a perfect example of that yet again. THIS is how you do an adaptation of a book. What can you even say about LotR that hasn’t been said already? Every part of the world feels so refined and…

I see it as nearly perfect: It's one of the best fantasy pictures ever made.

An extraordinary work, grandly conceived, brilliantly executed and wildly entertaining. It's a hobbit's dream, a wizard's delight. And, of course, it's only the beginning.

Above all, Jackson evokes an almost palpable sense of the will to power trapped within the ring. Without this evocation of the ring's insidious ability to sniff out the potential for corruption and capitalize on it, the entire enterprise would be precious drivel.
