A disappointing lack of reaction in the theatre when I screamed “OCHI JOCKEY” before hurling my large popcorn across the room.
Nicholas JanzenApr 21, 2025I wanted to like this, but something never clicked. Many good ideas that went nowhere, quirky moments that were funny, but lost all energy, and I'm not sure it ever completely knew what it wanted to be. In the end, it was beautiful, but boring. Even Willem Dafoe couldn't…

Old school filmmaking with a new school feel, I'm a sucker for a unique adventure film. Ochi is like a cross between Gizmo and Baby Yoda, I love cute lil guy cinema.

margauxApr 21, 2025I can’t wait for A24 to start selling a life-size Ochi for $200 so I can say, “Aww I want it!” and then never buy one.

i would die for that little guy he is so adorable. the beauty of this review is that i could be talking about the baby ochi but i could also be talking about willem dafoe
AliApr 16, 2025My apologies to the adorable creature and the amazing team who brought it to life, but The Legend of Ochi was a miss for me. Lots of pretty visuals, but not much beyond that. If this is meant for kids then I'm sorry, but kids deserve better movies.
Marianna Neal 🇺🇦Apr 21, 2025i do think it’s funny that this is coming out right before the live action lilo & stitch and how to train your dragon movies because it does somehow feel like an awesome mix of both

Definitely an experimental movie, which is why I didn’t give it a dislike. It’s trying something new, and I can appreciate that. Though, the plot isn’t that good. Visuals are amazing though imo.
So close to a 'like', but the second half falls flat into 'meh' territory. The cinematography and locations were beautiful, and the casting fits almost perfectly. There's definitely an '80s vibe, especially with the puppetry, although instead of the casual '80s chaotic nonsense, it's more boring…
Moments that really looked amazing, but then times that were weird and boring. The movie almost felt like how to train your Dragon 2, with the parents being separated by different ideals, and a different understanding of creatures. The highlights are the practical effects.

first half was pretty cool but when she started talking to it then the movie went downhill fast
The Legend of Ochi is a bit of a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, it’s gorgeous, the whole vibe, color grading, framing - everything, is genuinely stunning. The usual of practical puppets to create the Ochi creatures is seamless and looks great. On the other hand, it lacks substance, instead…
4.8 - I didn’t like this & I don’t even really know why I didn’t like this. Maybe my hopes were too high? It seems like an original idea. And practical effects & beautiful locations & fantasy adventure all sound up my alley. But I just didn’t care for the characters or the concept. It was…

Such a beautiful story! I’m pretty sure this is an adaptation of a book because the story feels like it was mapped 1:1 from a book. I can’t explain it. The themes and characters and choices and dialogue are literally all TOO thorough for it just be an original movie lol. If it is, I am extremely…
The communist Gremlins brings, in a very slow way, a message about respect for all the living things in this world, and the stupid and annoying “superiority” that the humans thinks we got. The problem is the way they trying to portray this message in the most boring way possible.
pretty consistently gorgeous with fantastic puppet work and general art design. the characters are well-written and the narrative is mostly successful in delivering its messages and themes in an entertaining manner. honestly enjoyable and decent; willem dafoe crushes it again

Do you miss when movies used to be made by small studios and didn’t need to have a gimmick? Then you have to see this movie. Heartfelt and original, with amazing effects that are not often used these days- rotoscope is still super cool! The acting was on point, and the…
