I think you could reasonably say that the Golden Age of the kung fu film began in 1967 with The One-Armed Swordsman, reached its classical perfection with 1978's The 36th Chamber of Shaolin and saw its last gasp with 1994's Drunken Master II. The common denominator is Lau…
Sean GilmanSep 10, 2021Took my dad (who had never before seen a Jackie Chan film) to see this at the Princess Cinema, an art house in Waterloo, Ontario. Think of how difficult it would be to do a single backflip. Now imagine, like, 15 uninterrupted minutes of incredible feats of physical…

comrade_yuiSep 12, 2021As sublime as Chan ever was on-screen. That he and Lau clashed so turbulently over the choreography is strange as none of that tension is in the perfect fluidity of the direction and motion, from the camera's elegant little darting slides to follow Chan's movement to those…
Jake ColeApr 7, 2024Starring: Jackie Chan - The Suicidal Clown, Drunken Kicker and Master of Punches Ahh man, I missed those crazy bloopers during the credits where we see Chan getting tortured and hurt for our entertainment. #classic So, this one never reached the greatness of the…

The Indiana Jones antithesis. It does not belong in a museum, certainly not a British one. Drunken Master 2 is vintage Jackie Chan. According to some the best he ever did. Inimitable. Unparalleled. Disney has computer animation. Marvel found a green screen in the…
Yves BouwenSep 12, 2021Every scene is either an incredible fight, a great comedic set-piece, or some beautiful overwrought melodrama. It makes a sad sort of sense that Jackie's best film is one that was such a troubled production, with original director Lau Kar-Leung being fired, and Jackie…
Justin DeclouxMay 24, 2022A whirlwind of acrobatics, comedy, and anti-colonial fury. Turns out the best way to reclaim stolen artifacts is a well-placed kick and a strategically timed swig of booze.

Every time I throw on Jackie Chan, he always manages to surprise me with how crazy fight choreography can go. I saw the original Drunken Master quite a while ago, and that was great, but they took it a whole new level with this sequel.
Kudaranaishy likedDrunken Master II6/10 I mean it’s just Jackie Chan playing the same role in every movie. Choreography on the fights it’s great but story and plot is about the same as any other once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all.
