So then there's the kind of representation you find buried in things like this. The unicorn isn't trans or queer, but her coming-of-age tale resonates with those who have lived lives trapped as something else, locking away their identities, trying to find happiness in…

Deeply altruistic, Pro-Love but Anti-Possession, Pro-Resistance, Pro-Revolution, Anti-Captivity, Pro-Earth, Anti-Colonialism. Visually expresses dysmorphia and innocence crumbling under the hooves of oppression. Magic but also love and connection ultimately liberate the…

"There are no happy endings because nothing ends." - Schmendrick the Magician So, I can't say for sure, but I can only imagine that this is one of those films that is appreciated far more by those who watched, spellbound, at a young age. I'm sure that if your first…

beautiful animation with bittersweet ending. Being only one of your kind who feels sadness is heartbreaking. And the message that there are no happy endings because there is no ending is astoundingly devestating

Loved this movie as a child. Rewatching as an adult it’s still beautifully done, some parts can be a little silly/cheesy, Cracking up at the hokey 80s ballads. Also why was she really about to risk it all for that man?? 😭 I would’ve been so mad if she didn’t turn back at the end

    The Last Unicorn

the animation was beautiful and there were so many great lines, but the story and character motivations were a bit confusing at times because why was she about to sacrifice the unicorns to marry a guy she’d just met 🤨 will definitely be reading analyses on this one

The Last Unicorn is notable because author Peter S. Beagle adapted his own popular 1968 novel, and made sure that his philosophical ruminations on myth, truth, and illusion remained integral to the plot.

Features a cast that would do any live-action film proud, a visual style noticeably different from that of other children's fare, and a story filled with genuine sweetness and mystery.
