Ava Gardner was in this for like five minutes. I feel robbed.
all burt lancaster does in this movie is take a shower and die and all ava gardner does in this movie is lie on a bed and lie, and you know what? thatโs all we really need sexy people to do! good for them!
"Don't ask a dying man to lie his soul into hell."
Robert Siodmakโs THE KILLERS is undeniably a classic film noir, and rightly regarded as one of the genre's best. Based on the short story by Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway actually credited the film for being โthe only good picture ever made of a story of mineโ. Delightfullyโฆ
Burt Lancaster is beautiful and dumb. Ava Gardner is hot and evil. And one intrepid insurance man is there to resolve it all.
i dislike the fact that yesterday i was completely hypnotized thinking all day about this movie and the way it was directed and told, and even more because i had so many thoughts and ideas that i could have written and scribbled (i was procrastinating like hell.) how sadโฆ
Inspired by a short story by Ernest Hemingway, The Killers is a ballad of dilated and threatening shadows, which combines expressionist aesthetics with Hopper's paintings. Night and darkness dominate the entire film which opens onto a highway shrouded in darkness, with theโฆ
Murky shadows and gritty sequences, lots of plays between light and shade. Characterised by its flashback-driven narrative. A proper film noir. The opening set up is as cool as any. so much to get tangled up with, and the score pierces through at just the right moments.โฆ
Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner star in Robert Siodmakโs noir about an insurance agent who inadvertently unravels a web of secrets while looking into the murder of an ex-boxer. Using Ernest Hemingwayโs short story as the starting point, Siodmak and co push the sourceโฆ
I usually dig old noir films, but this one didn't have a good grasp on me. The story told in reverse of Burt Lancaster's character is interesting, but the characters themselves didn't really keep me invested in the story. It's enough for me to like the film but not standout.
Ava Gardner plays the fem fatale so well in this with the way she deceives everyone. Lancaster is great too as he portrays a man who loses his livelihood and turns to crime only for his past to come back. The score is great and overall a great movie. One of my favorite thrillers.
Ok Ava Gardner is so iconic, I found it funny that the insurance investigator really did more than the police did as far as getting to the bottom of the murder, but it had a lot of funny moments and it turned out to be really good!
Burt Lancaster was not great at acting in this one, fire intro scene though
ava gardner was too pretty for all of them smh
Top shelf noir. The opening is terrific.
