A house that was born bad and eats trauma for breakfast faces its biggest challenge yet: loud lesbian lodgers.
CinemaVoid 🏴☠️Jun 18, 2024In a world full of cheap jump scares and over-the-top gore, it’s refreshing to find a haunted house movie that relies on pure, intense atmosphere. Modern horror should pay attention.

The queer subtext of this (not so much subtext in the trembling-in-bed scene) takes a "woman driven to madness" trope and adds a dimension of "the deadly closet" that makes this much more. It makes this a compassionate rather than piteous film. It makes the horrors run…

Tony the TerrorOct 1, 2022Spooktober III: The Haunting of the Blood October The haunting isn’t a house. The haunting has nothing to do with ghosts. The haunting is the repression that devours us inside. Shirley Jackson, who wrote the novel that the film is based on, briefed the screenwriter…

this is what you get when talented and creative people make genre films. camera angles that could be gimmicky create real unease. based on a Shirley Jackson novel, the psychology of the story elevates it. so visually and emotionally engaging with an unusually satisfying ending.
One of the most chilling and unnerving haunted houses movies out there, the atmosphere and cinematography added to the fear I felt watching it.
