An improbable masterpiece -- a bizarre mixture of grandly operatic visuals, grim brutality and sordid violence that keeps wrenching you from one extreme to the other.
Gorgeously stoic art film.

Did You Know?
- According to Eli Wallach's autobiography "The Good, the Bad and Me", Sergio Leone picked him for the role of Tuco not because of his role as Calvera in The Magnificent Seven (1960) as most people assumed but rather because of his brief role as a Tuco-like bandit in How the West Was Won (1962), in particular the railroad scene.
- Tuco examines a Belgian 10.4mm Galand revolver in the gun shop. This gun was not invented until 1867.
- Blondie: You may run the risks, my friend, but I do the cutting. We cut down my percentage - uh, cigar? - liable to interfere with my aim.
- Tuco: But if you miss you had better miss very well. Whoever double-crosses me and leaves me alive, he understands nothing about Tuco. Nothing!
