Despite all the carnie grotesques in this movie, the best part for me was when a random old man points a shotgun at a boy he sees walking along the side of the road for no reason other than laughs.
Will MenakerAug 21, 2019A great location oozing with small town carnival atmos, filled with a solid cast of miscreants/jerk teenagers, frankenstein masked human-cow (?) mutant hybrid, and Tobe Hooper’s deep fried scuzz on display—as well as his macabre humor and knack for ramping up endings into…
Ian WestSep 20, 2023Have you ever wanted to take a peek under the hood of the things we do for “fun”? Tobe Hooper has—and he knows that, deep down, so have you. The Funhouse gets heat for lacking what people typically expect from a grindhouse slasher; the kills & jump scares are few and the…

Premature ejaculation happens when an individual has an orgasm sooner than their partner would like. It’s a common problem, affecting 30% to 40% of albino mutant offspring. Treatments include crappy Frankenstein masks and $100 handjobs.

I was looking for something to enjoy on a cloudy/rainy Saturday afternoon and this fit the bill quite nicely. As a kid, this movie really terrified me. It’s so dingy and dirty that it felt so wrong to be watching it then. Go figure that it’s the exactly the kind of…
Tony the TerrorApr 12, 2022You will scream for terror, you will beg for release, but there will be no escape, for there is no release from The Funhouse! 🎪 Two couples head down to a nearby on-the-road carnival only to find themselves being hunted and chased around by a deformed being wearing a…
c h r i sSep 20, 2021Colorful, unsettling and beautifully shot, The Funhouse is one of the best examples of what a Tobe Hooper film is, and what he could do when given a little bit of a budget. Set primarily in a traveling carnival fun house, two couples find themselves trapped in said fun…

fun underrated slasher :) it has a cool setting and the survivors aren’t too annoying so that’s a plus i love gunther so much, he’s my favorite type of slasher, redeemable and misunderstood… he’s so silly… the ending felt kind of abrupt but that’s okay, i enjoyed the ride
I mean, this wouldn't be my choice for a week of slashers at Regal, but I do like it a bit more now than before after seeing it in the theater. That final act was so weak, and I see I will never really rewatch this. I still like the setting, and the kills were decent too.

The vibe is so unsettling. The funhouse at your local carnival, with all its mannequins and dolls and animatronics. It’s great in that. The villain is a bit misunderstood and such, but still a fun 80s horror flick.
Enjoyable horror movie. It may not have been so many kills but overall Tobe Hooper is a great director.
